Green tea contains a high amount of a phytochemical called EGCG, which has been shown to be a powerful antioxidant. Polyphenols are also antioxidants found in green tea. Antioxidants can help protect blood vessels from damage that could promote hardening of the arteries. Also, the Journal of the American Medical Association released a study showing a reduced occurrence of stroke in people who consumed green tea regularly.
It has also been suggested that EGCG may help protect us from cancer-causing substances. In addition, it has been hypothesized that polyphenols can prevent cancer from forming. Polyphenols may be able to prevent the oxidation that damages DNA, turning normal cells into malignant cells.
Just to note: some large population based studies looking at the impact of green tea have found less than consistent results. However, ongoing research is being conducted to find more conclusive evidence.

I have heard that palpations can occur with the use of green tea...any thoughts on this?

Does the green tea have to be in whole leaf form or just in a tea bag. What brands are best and how long does one steep whole leaf green tea? Thank you, Bev
